There is something about a sleeping baby that makes you want to snuggle them and go ‘Aww’. Their tiny hands intertwined with yours while their brow twinkles with their sweet sweat and those little sighs they make in their sleep is enough to make many hearts melt.
But getting to this stage is not so easy – my regular nap time routine involves feeding, rocking, singing, threatening and pleading in equal measures. And, ensuring baby stays asleep for more time than it takes you to gulp down a glass of water is another trick I am yet to master. What has always helped me do this is ensuring Baby M is snuggly. And, you can’t get more snuggly than a blanket.
When M was small, I used to simply swaddle him and then later I used the blanket I knit for him while he was still baking in my tummy. This worked fine until the winter disappeared and we reluctantly had to say hello to our signature hot and humid summers. As the mercury started to rise, M started shedding his layers of clothing. Currently, the blanket I knit for him is part of his toy box and something he chews on rather than part of his sleep kit.
The only thing M can stand wearing in this heat is a thin cotton singlet and his cloth diaper. And so, I was skeptical when Soul sent me their Snuggly blanket to try out. But, two months into using it in every possible scenario and I am in love.
The Soul Snuggly is made with linen and is thin, airy yet somehow extremely snuggle worthy. I know the above reads like an advertisement but its so soft that if the blanket was bigger I would totally steal it and use it for myself. When I introduced the Snuggly to M one hot summer afternoon he almost immediately fell in love and now this is the one thing he must have when he sleeps no matter how hot it is.
Since M loves it so much, I’ve even started getting creative and aside from the obvious ‘blanket’ purpose I use our Soul Snuggly in place of many other accessories. This has meant that finally my my diaper cave (I mean bag) has reduced in size and I am not practicing weightlifting any more.
Curious how I use my Soul Snuggly? Here’s 10 amazing other things you can do with it:
- As a mat for baby to play on in the park or at other people’s houses
- A soft cloth that M can play peekaboo with
- As a cover when I breastfeed and I don’t have my carrier around
- Bunched up to become a pillow
- Something he can nibble on since he is teething
- Diaper changing mat
- To make a ‘hand-ghost’ to entertain him
- As a on-the-go bib since it can be washed and it dries super quick
- As a cover from the sun if M is sleeping in his pram
- As a quick washcloth if I am out and about and don’t have my burp cloth
The best part about the Snuggly is that it’s easy to wash and that it seems to get softer the more we use it. If you have a new mom in your life and/or are looking for a gift for yourself (I always use M’s monthly birthdays as an excuse) then the Soul Snuggly is a must buy! They come in so many prints and are super affordable for the versatile value they offer.
